CED Public Event
Oral cancer - Dentists saving lives
 |
On 23 June, CED together with MEPs Against Cancer (MAC) Group and the European Cancer Leagues (ECL) co-organised a meeting on 'Oral Cancer - Dentists Saving Lives' in the European Parliament. The objective of the meeting was to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and treatment of oral cancer and the role of dentists.

CED at 55th EDSA meeting

On 14 and 15 April, CED President Dr Wolfgang Doneus and CED Policy Officer Aleksandra Sanak attended the 55th meeting of the European Dental Students Association (EDSA) in Istanbul, Turkey. On the first day, Aleksandra Sanak presented the CED, its mission, structure and functioning. She also led a workshop on European legislation in dentistry. On the second day, the CED President participated in a panel debate on European demographics and mobility of dentists. More information is available here. | |

On 28 May, the CED Board met in Riga, Latvia. The Board discussed current work and EU political developments, recommending for adoption two resolutions and two statements by the CED General Meeting the following day. The Board also discussed, among others, CED observer status requests and CED relations with external organisations. | |

On 29 and 30 May, representatives of CED member and observer organisations met in Riga, Latvia for the regular six-monthly General Meeting. The meeting was hosted by the Latvian Dental Association, in the context of the Latvian Presidency of the EU Council. It started with a welcome address by the Deputy Secretary of State on Health Policy Matters, Ms Egita Pole, followed by the President of the Latvian Dental Association, Dr Andis Paeglitis.

Meeting with Head of Health Technology & Cosmetic Unit (DG GROWTH)

On 29 April, CED Chair of Working Group Tooth Whitening, Dr Stefaan Hanson and CED Senior Policy Officer, Sara Roda met with Ms Sabine Lecrenier (Head of Health Technology & Cosmetic Unit*), Legal Officer Ms Izabela Taborska and Scientific Policy Officer Mr Gaetano Castaldo, to present the second CED report on undesirable effects caused by tooth whitening products (to be available soon here).

CED at mHealth stakeholder meeting in Riga

On 12 May, chair of the CED Working Group eHealth, Dr Piret Väli, attended the mHealth stakeholder meeting in Riga, Latvia. The meeting took place during the annual eHealth week 2015. The participants discussed ongoing and potential future policy actions in the field of mobile health. The European Commission presented its initiative for an industry-led Code of Conduct for mobile health apps. For more information, please click here. | |

CED Board Task Forces (BTF)
CED response to consultation on competitionThe CED replied to the public consultation launched by the European Commission and the Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health (EXPH) on the preliminary opinion on the "Competition among Health Care Providers in the European Union – Investigating Policy Options". The CED strongly welcomed this preliminary opinion and advised for its wide distribution, particularly among European Commission services which are currently carrying out the mutual evaluation and transparency exercise under Directive 2005/36/EC. The CED stressed that its important conclusions should be taken into account by Member States and EU institutions when drafting and proposing any regulation which could affect healthcare professionals and healthcare systems. CED Brussels Office
CED Communications Officers meet in BrusselsOn 5 June, CED Brussels Office hosted the bi-annual meeting of CED Communications Officers - persons responsible for communications in national dental associations. Seven participants from six different countries attended the meeting which included an update on CED structures, policies and methods, CED communications activities and media policy. Communications Officers exchanged and shared their national experience with communicating dentistry-related messages. |

mHealth stakeholders meet in Brussels

On 6 July, a stakeholder meeting on quality and reliability of mobile health applications was organised by the European Commission's DG CONNECT in Brussels. The meeting was a follow-up to the Green Paper on mobile health and the public consultation with the aim to further discuss with the stakeholders possible future policy actions.

Labelled as “collaborating stakeholders” in the Joint Action on eHealth

On 3 July, CED Senior Policy Officer Sara Roda, together with representatives of CPME, PGEU, HOPE, EPHA, and EPF, among others, participated in an informal meeting organised by the Project Coordinator of the Joint Action to support the eHealth Network (JAseHN) to discuss EU stakeholders’ involvement in the JAseHN. Also present were representatives of DG SANTE and DG CONNECT on behalf of the European Commission.

Meeting with DG GrowthOn 9 July, CED Senior Policy Officer Sara Roda met with Legal Officers Mr András Zsigmond and Ms Sophie Weisswange of the Free Movement of Professionals Unit to present the latest CED policy on common training principles and on the dental team relationship with patients (both adopted in May 2015).

CED at Joint Action on EU Health Workforce Workshop in LondonOn 23 April, CED Senior Policy Officer Sara Roda represented the CED at the workshop discussion of Work Package 6 (WP6) « Horizon Scanning » organised under the Joint Action on EU Health Work Force Planning and Forecasting (JAHWF) by WP6 leaders in London, UK. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the first draft of the Report on future skills and competences.

CED at a two-days workshop of the JAHWFOn 18-19 June, CED Senior Policy Officer Sara Roda also represented the CED at the workshop discussion of Work Package 4 (WP4) «Data for health workforce planning» organised under the Joint Action on EU Health Work Force Planning and Forecasting (JAHWF) by WP4 leaders in Budapest, Hungary. The objective of the meeting was to discuss and exchange information about countries experiences on gaps that influence and hinder a comprehensive national health workforce planning, this in order to prepare deliverable D043 - Report on health workforce planning data (agenda and pre-reading). Two specific group sessions were also foreseen and participants divided between Member States and Stakeholders.

Universal Access to Health - One year after the EU electionsOn 5 May, CED Policy Officer Aleksandra Sanak attended a roundtable debate 'Universal access to health - one year after the EU elections' co-organised by the European Patient's Forum (EPF), European Generics Association (EGA), Doctors of the World and the International Association of Mutual Benefit Societies (AIM). The event gathered several Members of the European Parliament (MEP) and various healthcare stakeholders. The MEPs stressed the importance of equal access to healthcare and therapeutic innovation, as well as a dialogue and cooperation among the EU institutions, health professionals, patient organisations and other relevant stakeholders. Conference on Endocrine Disruptors

On 1 June, the European Commission DG Health and Food Safety organised a one-day conference to inform stakeholders, Member States, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and third countries about the on-going impact assessment on "criteria to identify endocrine disruptors" (four options are on the table) and to provide a platform for further exchange of views. The conference was broadcast live and presentations can be seen here. This conference was attended by CED Senior Policy Officer Sara Roda.

Meeting of the Patient Safety and Quality of Care Expert GroupOn 8 June, CED Head of Office Nina Bernot and CED Policy Officer Aleksandra Sanak attended the meeting of the European Commission's Expert Group on Patient Safety and Quality of Care. The participants further discussed the Commission proposed new structure of the Group, as well as the future activities in the area of patient safety and quality of care. An update on ongoing projects also took place. |

Meeting of Commission Expert Group on Health Workforce

On 17 June, CED Head of Office Nina Bernot and CED Senior Policy officer Sara Roda attended the Commission Expert Group on European Health Workforce. The objective of this meeting was to follow-up on the progress made on the Commission Action Plan for EU health workforce since its launch in 2012 and to have a first discussion on the sustainability of the Joint Action on Health Workforce Planning and Forecasting (JAHWF). Further discussions on this topic will take place in Varna, Bulgaria, in November in a workshop organised by the JAHWF.

Debate in the European Parliament on the EU Mobility of Health Professionals

On 5 May, CED Senior Policy Officer Sara Roda attended a policy debate in the European Parliament hosted by Nessa Childers MEP (S&D, Ireland) and jointly organised by the Health Workers for All (HW4All) project, the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) and the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA).
